Properly storing your sleeping bag is an essential skill to make sure that your bag is always in tip top condition and that you get the most bang for your buck. Here are four simple steps to store your sleeping bag:

  1. Take it out of the sleeping bag sack
  2. Make sure that the bag is completely and thoroughly dry
  3. Loosely put it inside a mesh sack or a breathable cotton bag
  4. Store it in a place that’s cool and dry.

Moisture and temperature extremes are harmful to your sleeping bag, so do not store it in damp basements and extremely cold areas like the garage or attic. Put your sleeping bag on the top or a corner of your closet instead.

As a bonus tip, you could also place your sleeping bag in a jumbo cotton storage bag that most sleeping bags come in today. Those bags keep your sleeping bag contained, while allowing proper air circulation within the fill.

However, if your sleeping bag did not come with a storage bag, you need not fret! You could also use a king-sized pillowcase. Otherwise, you could purchase a huge cotton or mesh sack to store your bag in.
