As you know, Hyke & Byke recently joined the Conservation Alliance, a group of more than 250 companies with a common goal—to support grassroots environmental organizations and the causes important to them.
Twice a year, the Alliance votes on which community-level conservation efforts they will fund. These projects serve to protect North American habitats and outdoor recreation areas.
It's now time to vote—the Summer 2021 Grant Cycle Ballot is out—and we need your help! There are so many worthy conservation projects that need funding, and we would love to hear from you on which project you would choose.
Before we get to the voting below, here are a few details about some of the projects we are considering throwing our support.
Grant Request: $50,000
Project Type: Wilderness and Wildland Protection
This project was proposed by the Wyoming Outdoor Council and if funded will help to pass legislation that permanently protects up to one million acres of public land in Wyoming's Northern Red Desert from mineral leasing, up to 100,000 acres as wilderness, and up to two million acres of high-elevation desert through other conservation designations to ensure sustainable recreation, hunting, thriving wildlife, and the preservation of ancestral lands.
Grant Request: $50,000
Project Type: Wildland Protection
This project was proposed by the Women's Earth and Climate Action Network and if funded will help to permanently protect 9.2 million acres of Alaska’s Tongass National Forest from extractive industries by reinstating the 2001 Roadless Rule and passing the federal Roadless Area Conservation Act (RACA),
Grant Request: $40,000
Project Type: Halt Energy Development, Wilderness
This project was proposed by the Wilderness Workshop and if funded will help to pass legislation that protects 200,000 acres of the Thompson Divide from oil and gas development, and designates 100,000 acres along Colorado’s Continental Divide as Wilderness, recreation and wildlife management areas, and the first National Historic Landscape.
Grant Request: $50,000
Project Type: Private Land
This project was proposed by the Ventura Land Trust and if funded will help to acquire the 1,645 Mariano Rancho property in downtown Ventura, California, and open it to the public, providing hiking and biking access along 12 miles of trails.
Grant Request: $45,000
Project Type: Private Land
This project was proposed by the Trust For Public Land and if funded will help to acquire and protect 813 acres of forestland in the foothills of Wallingford, Vermont, including 5.7 miles of rivers and streams, 117 acres of wetlands, old-growth stands, quartzite cliffs, and 4.5 miles of trails that connect to the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
Grant Request: $50,000
Project Type: Private Land
This project was proposed by the Great Springs Project and if funded will help to purchase 850 acres for conservation and trail connection between Austin and San Marcos, Texas, contributing to a long-term goal of conserving 25,000 acres for recreational, health, and cultural benefits.
